All We Imagine As Light by Payal Kapadia, which was an official joint project of India and France, created history by first being screened in the Cannes festival becoming the first Indian film to do so in about 30 years. It also went on to win the Grand Prix at the festival, becoming the first ever Indian film to achieve the honour.
The film was a co-production between Chalk and Cheese Films and Another Birth from India and Petit Chaos from France. The film was released in the French theatres on 2nd October. The film’s distribution rights in India were bought by Rana Daggubati’s production house Spirit Media. The film was earlier launched in limited screens in Kerala on 21st September. It was launched by the name of Prabhayay Ninachathellam in Malayalam. And now the team eyes for a nation-wide release of the film.
The film will be released in India in the month of November. Prior to the release, it will be screened in the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival where it will serve as the opening film. The scheduled date for the screening is MAMI is set to be October 18th. The festival will run till October 24th with a line-up of over 110 films in more than 50 languages. At the film’s screening at MAMI, Kapadia said that she is honoured to be screened at the festival which marks her introduction to world cinema.
She further stated on the nation-wide release of the film, “I am so excited for the India release this November! I hope that many people go to watch it. It is such a wonderful feeling for any filmmaker.” Even Daggubati expressed his happiness in distributing the film in India. He said that he is thrilled to bring the film to a wider range of audience in November, initiating its screening in MAMI.
The film has been released in France and now, it will get its release in India as well. The distribution rights for the film were also bought by many other countries including the USA, UK, Australia, Russia etc. making it a global film in true sense.
