Indian cinema is currently experiencing a mix of positive and negative changes. October 2024 is set to bring some big releases, and there’s a lot to unpack. Alia Bhatt, currently one of the biggest actresses in Hindi cinema, is set to release her solo-led action movie “Jigra”. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film carries significant responsibility, as female-led action thrillers are rare in Bollywood. Historically, these films haven’t fared well, with “Dhaakad” being a prime example of poor audience reception.
Despite the odds, “Jigra” has the potential to steer Hindi cinema in a new direction, promoting strong female-led films. The most recent successful female-led movie was “Gangubai Kathiawadi”, also starring Alia Bhatt. Moreover, Jigra’s director, Vasan Bala, has gained impressive recognition from his previous ventures like “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” and “Monica, O My Darling”.
