The concept of the re-releasing trend of films is widening now breaking all its boundaries and shackles with effect from its profound responses from the audience. Classics from every industry are brought back to the big screen, either blockbuster or non-notable on its release.
The recent story of a highly acclaimed Punjabi language flick, ‘Moh’ (Eng. Love and Attachment) is all set to re-release in theatres on the 4th of October. Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, the romantic drama is about the doomed affair of a teenager with a married woman. Shri Narotam Ji Productions, Tips Films Ltd., and Orion Studios bankrolled the movie.
The theatrical release on the 16th of September in 2022 received highly positive responses for the film. The effort was well-praised especially for the heartfelt depiction of unrequited love and emotional complexity. Also, technical aspects like the direction and dialogues by Shiv Tarsem Singh and Govind Singh were noteworthy and striking. The climax portion was worth discussing despite its slow narrative.
Furthermore, the performances of the lead actors Sargun Mehta and Gitaj Bindrakhia were splendid bringing the strong yet vulnerable aspect of the character and the on-screen chemistry satiable for the audiences.
However, the re-release of this effort may have to face a neck and neck between iconic re-releases like ‘Tumbaad’ and ‘Laila Majnu’ which can have ups or downs in the commercial prospects.
Subsequently, the film does not have that much potential for a re-release, unlike an amusement ride like Tumbaad, as it doesn’t have any freshness and becomes too early in presenting at such a time until it can set an example for a modern classic in Indian cinema and its ability in connecting the audiences.
Will its treatment and a chance provide any distinctive experience of bringing the poignant love story to the theatres once again?
