After having a tremendous outing with Stree 2, expectations were high for Rajkummar Rao to deliver another blast of comedy in his newest film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. The trailer seemed decent and had its moments which promised to be another laughter ride involving Vicky.
With the hard-hitting soundtrack, the film tried to copy the album of Stree 2 but the response was underwhelming. After hitting the screens, viewers took their disappointment over to social media showcasing how bad and dragged the film was.
With an average first half, the film never rose to the occasion in the second half and kept going downhill since then. From critics to the audiences, everyone rated it to be a disappointment given the expectations from Rajkummar Rao after Stree 2.
Though the film had a good opening at the theatres when the initial reviews came in, the viewers made up their minds and skipped the film. Despite having low numbers at the box office, the film managed to outperform Alia Bhatt’s Jigra.
After looking at its run so far, the main question arises what made it underperforming at the theatres? Well, the lack of good humor made it way more dragged and cringy at times when it should have been funnier. Some dialogues have no logical or situational presence and are present just to add humor, which seems forced.
Another huge drawback the film had was having the Stree angle. The ghost figure from the Maddock Horror Universe, Stree, appears in one of the movie’s scenes. This also led to a huge controversy which was later clarified by the director Raaj Shaandilyaa.
Shaandilyaa apologized to the Stree Universe creators for using allusions from the popular franchise without their consent. He explained that there is no connection between the movie and the Stree universe.
Controversies and forced and outdated humor led to the downfall of Tripti Dimri and Rajkummar Rao’s latest venture which could have performed better at the theatres.
