Kangana Ranaut’s directorial Emergency, which was initially ready to be released on 6th September after multiple delays. But the film again faced an issue for film certification and was again delayed unconditionally. Now the film gets good news as it seems like there are prospects for the film to get a film certification with some conditions.
The CBFC told the Bombay High Court that soon a certificate will be issued to the film. But on the condition that certain cuts will be made in the film as directed by them. Last week a division bench of judges came down on the CBFC for not taking a decision on issuing a certificate for the film. The HC commanded the board to come to a decision as it would otherwise amount to curtailing the freedom of speech. The court had directed the board to come up with a decision by September 25.
Kangana too had accused the CBFC for deliberately stalling the release of the film. Zee Entertainment, a co-producer for the film then moved to the HC seeking them to direct the board to take an action regarding the certification of the film.
CBFC’s counsel Abhinav Chandrachud informed the court that the board’s revisiting committee has taken a decision, “The committee has suggested some cuts before certificates can be issued and movies can be released.”
Senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani, who was appearing for Zee Entertainment, sought time to take a decision on whether or not the cuts can be made. The bench then gave the date of further hearing to be on September 30.
If the makers agree for the changes to be made, the film can expect a release very soon. But if the makers adhere to their script and their perspective for the film, the matter will again be on the same path.
