Regional films are generally an escape from mainstream cinema and provide a out of the box experience to moviegoers. In terms of box office collection and ticket sales, regional films don’t normally perform well but this doesn’t seem to be the case for Locha Laapsi.
Locha Laapsi is a Gujarati film starring Malhar Thakar, Vaibhavi Upadhyay, Chetan Dhanani, and Chirag Vohra in prominent roles. The film was released on 20th September and had decent expectations given the plot and genre.
The protagonist of the story is a focused engineer named Bhaskar Joshi, who is traveling from Kutch to Bhuj to present his most recent project. But Bhaskar’s trip takes a crazy turn when his taxi has a flat tire in the middle of nowhere. What follows ahead reveals a hilarious turn of events for Bhaskar which also has a huge suspense throughout the film.
The film was expected to have a good opening day given it was released on National Cinema Day. It crossed all expectations and had a rocking opening after selling over 50,000 tickets on its first day. Locha Laapsi had a respectable opening day haul of around ₹0.60 crore, which was good for a regional movie. The film, which was aimed at a broad Gujarati-speaking audience, debuted in theaters throughout Gujarat, Maharashtra, and a few other cities including Delhi and Mumbai.
The film, which is written and directed by Maulin Parmar and Sachin Brahmbhatt, promises to be an exciting ride with some lighthearted humor mixed in. Fans of both comedy and thriller genres are talking about the film given its talented starcast and gripping plot.
Having competition from mainstream films like Stree 2, Tumbbad and Yudhra, Locha Laapsi delivered a decent amount of ticket sales. It shows how people are becoming aware of regional films and are accepting them over mainstream films. The future looks bright for regional cinema and Locha Laapsi just boosted the path for regional films to shine.
