Everyone’s there to take credit when an independent Indian film does well at the global scale but when it comes to supporting them in their budding stage before they have gained such recognition, not many are willing to take the leap and come out in support.
There’s a lot of effort and time required in the whole process of making such films but it’s really disheartening to see the lack of infrastructure for them. Such filmmaker’s have to scout for everything and make strong pitches to rope in actors and producers. But the bigger struggle remains and that is to secure distributors for their films and subsequently releasing it in theatres.
Therefore when films like ‘All We Imagine As Light’, ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ and more make India proud at the world stage we should not rush to take credit for their hard work. It was all them, only them and no one else.
This brings us to the fact that there is an urgent need for fundamental and structural changes within the entertainment industry. Mainstream cinema should be more welcoming of the independent cinema and also realise it a sooner than later that co-existence is the best way ahead.
