The nominations for Oscars 2025 have been announced. A lot of people are giving mixed reactions, as expected from them. While some are unhappy about their favourite film getting snubbed, some simply can’t digest the fact that Emilia Perez got so many nominations.
But try to remember a beautiful Netflix film called “The Power of the Dog.” Even after a double-digit nomination, the film managed to grab only one Oscar.
Well, that’s a different talk altogether. Let’s talk about short films in India.
You would remember The Elephant Whisperers. The short documentary from 2022 won an Oscar in 2023 and it was quite a surprise.
But this year, two films of Indian connection have made it to the nominations.
What are they?
First is Anuja. Folks like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Mindy Kaling, etc are associated with it. This documentary talks about girls and the way they are faced with challenges.
Another is a short documentary called “I Am Ready, Warden” by Smriti Mundra.
This is not an Indian documentary at all but yes, we wanted you to know about it.
More and more Indian filmmakers are gaining international recognition and none of them are in the mainstream.
Now that All We Imagine As Light has been snubbed, let’s see what’s the fate of Anuja.
