Young National Film Award recipient director, Jhulan Krishna Mahanta is upcoming with his latest release Sundarpur Chaos in Assamese. The film will hit the theatres throughout the state on October 25.
The film delves into the tumultuous thoughts, aspirations and emotions of a young man in contemporary Assam. The story of the film is inspired by the incidents of land grabbing and encroachment of the Satra land in several areas of Assam. Jhulan, who also has written the screenplay of the film, narrates how the issue is not only about land grabbing and encroachment but has a larger picture related to the culture and heritage of the state and its people.
The film has a talented lead cast of Pratha Pratim Hazarika and Shilpi Dutta- who are both National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi graduates. Pratha, especially, brings the necessary depth to the role. Jhulan himself is a well acclaimed filmmaker having received a National Award for his art. Hence, the film will be highly expected in terms of quality.
The film is a project that will propagate the plight of Assamese people and their life throughout audiences of different demography. In the meantime, the film will maintain the connection with the audience. The film deals with multiple sub-themes like the education system of the state and the rich culture and tradition of the Satra lands which are being inhabited by foreigners.
The film can be a successful venture in portraying the indigenous problems of the state, which remain buried within its boundaries, in front of the whole country. The film will be screened by the PVR-INOX which will make the film available to the whole country. This will further widen the reach of the film.
