Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer The Buckingham Murders was released last week on Friday. The film amassed an amount of 5-6 crores in its first weekend which can be called decent enough. But after that, the film suffered to even touch the mark of 1 crore in terms of collections. The re-release of Tumbbad dominated the theatres along with other regional and previously released films amidst which The Buckingham Murders was pushed into oblivion.
This became a concerning matter for the creators and the marketing team came up with an idea to boost the sales and create a buzz around the movie. The team announced the film tickets to be priced at ₹99 on the occasion of National Cinema Day on 20th September, Friday. The team expected this lowering of ticket prices will create a boost of sales and the film will receive some significant attention which it really needed.
On the contrary to this, the film recorded its worst ever collection for a day on the eve of National Cinema Day. As per Sacnilk, the film reported a meagre collection of about 30 lacs in India and 18 lacs overseas. The National Cinema Day saw the release of multiple films and many films sold cheap tickets to take advantage of the day. The idea of selling cheap tickets was not unique to The Buckingham Murders, and people chose other movies than watching it.
The film has been made with a huge budget of 40 crores and considering the collection it is receiving currently, it does not seem the film will be able to recover even its budget in the coming days.
