Filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor has said that he presently desires to build a new school on AI filmmaking. Kapoor has been one of the most enthusiastic people on the subject of artificial intelligence.
He plans to make the school in Dharavi slum district of Mumbai. He has previously contributed a great deal in instituting a school of music and giving young talents from Dharavi their well deserved opportunities. He was partnered by A.R. Rahman in that venture and also funded and supported by Universal Music.
This new school of filmmaking will focus solely on artificial intelligence and its uses in filmmaking. Kapoor says, “AI is the most democratic technology that has come in, despite what everybody says. Because I know that my future competition is not with the biggest directors in the world, it is with this 15-year-old girl who lives in a slum in Mumbai who understands prompting and will be able to create one-minute, two-minute, 10-minute films just by sitting at the computer … and will be better than me.”
It might be a very frightening prospect for big studios but it is indeed a silver lining for the students of Dharavi who really want to learn filmmaking. It might bring a revolutionary change in the history of filmmaking and it will impact the industry in a large way.
