You must have noticed a strange trend in Bollywood lately: the re-release of films from the past. Just last month, we witnessed the insane success of Laila Majnu, which is still running successfully in cities like Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and more.
Or take the case of Tumbbad. It is receiving highly positive responses from people, and it seems audiences are now regretting not watching the movie when it originally released.
Such things are always appreciated, and we certainly want people to visit cinemas when a great movie is playing.
But the sad trend is that many films are being re-released on the big screen that don’t make sense in 2024.
Take Khalnayak and Bombay to Goa, for example. In a city like Hyderabad, these two movies are running. But let’s think about it.
Khalnayak was an immensely successful movie, and there are few films that can touch its legacy. However, the movie hasn’t really survived the test of time. It was fantastic for 1993, but 31 years later…
The case with a film like Bombay to Goa is even worse.
Empty theaters and this perplexing trend of re-releases leave us wondering. What do you think about it?
Shouldn’t only those films be re-released that still make sense for a big-screen experience in 2024?
