Alia Bhatt is no doubt a shining heroine in the industry right now, and awestrucking performance would leave anyone flabbergasted.
But, as the Bollywood industry is turning towards the action genre, Alia Bhatt dived into the sea of breaking her stereotypical roles and is coming back as the leading lady in “Jigra”, collaborating with Vasan Bala.
Bhatt has diverse films in her filmography, movies like “Student Of The Year” , “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani”, “Kapoor And Sons”, “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania”, and many more.
But, there is a reason why we consider her a versatile actress. It all started with “Highway”, “Udta Punjab” , “Razzi” and most importantly with Sanjay Leela BBhansali on “Gangubai Kathiawadi”.
She delivered diverse roles like no one else, right now the industry is focusing on Female Centric movies but Alia started it way before.
But the question is why “Jigra” could be an essential part of her filmography.
Despite having huge talent to do movies like , “ Gangubai Kathiawadi” and “Razzi” Alia to some extent is still considered as an stereotypical actress, with “Jigra” she is breaking that stereotype.
Although, now that the industry is delving into R – rated action movies like “Kill”, the makers lost a huge chance to make “Jigra” an A- rated action film, which would have been more appealing to the audience.
The story revolves around a young woman named “Satya” who had a traumatic childhood and now she is only left with her brother “Ankur” who is imprisoned, and being tortured.
With no option left Satya has to become the hero and save her brother.
We have never seen Alia in an action packed movie in Bollywood, where she is the leading lady.
Now that Bollywood is focusing on action thrillers and female leading movies this movie fits in the right shelf.
With her role in “Jigra” as a fears, independent, and adamant woman, challenges the stereotypical “Bollywood Heroine” roles.
“Jigra” has the potential to be one of her best works in her filmography, because it challenges her own previous movies.
This movie shows the emotional struggle, the bonding of a brother and sister and as well as to what extent a sister can go to save her brother. Emotions, vulnerabilities, and action this movie is a package.
Furthermore, the background song “Ek Hazaromai Meri Bahana Hai” makes it even more intriguing and gives the audience a sense of sadness related to this movie.
Furthermore, although “Jigra” has everything to break the stereotype, which “ Gangubai Kathiawadi” too had, but it was under the the banner of “SLB”, so a majority of audience went to see the movie because it was a Bhansali movie.
Not really because it had a leading woman.
So, this can backfire “Jigra”, although this movie is also under the banner of “Dharma Production”, who recently released a major action movie, this influence can work in favour to “Jigra” but also it can put “Jigra” in front of harsh criticism.
