Will Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s Nostalgia Overpower Rohit’s Copverse Streak?

Will Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s Nostalgia Overpower Rohit’s Copverse Streak?

The last quarter of the year 2024 is prepared to witness some of the greatest films of the year. As October is progressing with some high-budget films, November welcomes us with open arms with some big movies in store. The first day of the month of November will be marked by two highly anticipated films. One being a big-budget film of a hailed franchise- Singham Again. Another being the sequel of a classic- Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.

Both the films are eagerly awaited by audiences and both have their own advantages to make it big in theatres. But it is noteworthy as to which film might have a better chance in gaining an audience.

Singham was released back in 2011, and since then, Rohit Shetty created a whole cinematic universe revolving around hero policemen fighting against corrupt and powerful antagonists. Till date, four films have been launched in the franchise with all of them being big hits. On top of it, Rohit Shetty has rarely failed as a filmmaker in his filmography and almost all of his films have been superhits. This makes it a big possibility that Singham Again too will be a success.

The film also has an USP of the Copverse created by Shetty. The film may feature cameos of protagonists of other actors of the Copverse which include Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh. Such a thing happened before in Suryavanshi as well (which starred Akshay Kumar). And the scene where the three united was very well appreciated. The same can be expected off Sigham as well. Also, bringing in multiple stars ensures a wider fan base targeted, which again gives the film an advantage.

On the other hand, Bhool Bhulaiya, which was launched back in 2007 was an adaptation of Chandramukhi (an adaptation of Manichitrathazhu). The film was quite a hit, but slowly the film gathered a big name for itself. The film became a classic comedy-horror and became a milestone in Akshay Kumar’s filmography. A second film of the franchise was released a couple of years ago with a new cast and story. But now the direct sequel to the film will be released in November. The film, though will star Karthik Aryan and Tripti Dimri in the lead roles, the element of nostalgia hits high with the recasting of Vidya Balan in the film.

Bringing back Vidya Balan in the franchise will surely boost up the sales due to the nostalgic connection people have with her. She played the role of Manjulika in the first film and when the second film was released, the cast for Manjulika and the lore around her both changed. This led to the rejection of the film by fans. Though the film was a great hit commercially, missing the connection with the original had a great impact in its reception.

Looking at both the films, one can conclude that both will supposedly amount to great collections in the box office in November. But considering the last releases of the Rohit Copverse films, they have been bashed for the superficial content they provided. Sooryavanshi was highly bashed by reviewers. This may be a factor that’ll restrict the film’s potential. Whereas, the nostalgia around Bhool Bhulaiyaa will lead to a better reception of the film. Thought of little value, still Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will have an edge over Singham Again in the box office.
