Aamir Khan has clarified that the OTT release of Sitaare Zameen Par was always part of his plan, but he did not want it to happen soon after its theatrical run.
The film released in theatres in June 2025 and performed well at the box office. Instead of moving it quickly to streaming, Aamir chose a different path. In July, he released the film on YouTube under a pay per view model. Viewers had to pay ₹100 to watch it. He wanted people to pay directly for a film rather than watch it through a subscription.
At that time, he had said he did not want big deals from OTT platforms. He preferred earning small amounts from a large number of viewers. He also believed that early OTT releases reduce theatre audiences.
Now, the film is set to release on SonyLIV on April 3. Aamir says this was always planned, only delayed. The long gap between theatre and OTT is unusual, but it shows how he wanted to try something new before coming to streaming.
The experiment was different, but it also showed how audiences prefer convenience. Many people are more comfortable watching films on OTT platforms as part of a subscription.
In the end, the film has reached OTT like most others. The journey was different, but the final step remains the same.
