Kapil Sharma is a successful face in Indian comedy culture, and his show “Comedy Nights With Kapil” was a wholesome family show.
But recently in 2024 Kapil Sharma shifted from television to OTT, with his show “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show”, on Netflix.
Although the show focuses on Hindi speaking audiences it won global hearts.
Season 1 went on to become the first Indian series to trend on the Global Top 10 TV list for four weeks consecutively”.
In countries like Canada, New Zealand and Australia, it was on top of the chart. “The Great Kapil Sharma Show” is being globally accepted but why is it so?
With his hand picked list of artists and sportsmen, and his clean comedy it can be an enjoyable show for the foreign people, because they are unaware of the comedy Kapil Sharma used to do.
Now, although the Kapil Sharma show was a very accessible show for all of the Indians when it made its shift towards Netflix, the number of people from Indian viewership decreased.
And being a family friendly show, Kapil Sharma is trying to deliver a very clean comedy to the viewers which is not working at all.
Those who are familiar with Sharma’s previous style of jokes and comedy will be stunned to see how the quality has dropped drastically.
But, now because it is on a streaming platform like Netflix, with far more advanced technology, and the masterfully created list of celebrities and sports persons, the global audience accepts Kapil Sharma with open arms.
The show is also expanding its character roster, introducing more pop culture-relevant figures alongside familiar faces.
Apart from all this, we have to keep in mind that the comedy we used to love in 2017 is not the same anymore.
So is it the marketing strategy of Netflix which made it a big deal ?
As the popularity of “The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show” increases, Kapil is still open to new opportunities and stand ups.
