Dhadak 2, after a disappointing theatrical run, now has its eyes set on a successful OTT journey, and it’s currently streaming on Netflix.
A spiritual sequel to Dhadak (2018), this romantic drama stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. The film follows Nilesh (Chaturvedi), a low-caste law student who falls for his upper-caste classmate, Vidhi (Dimri). Against all odds, Nilesh attends Vidhi’s sister’s wedding, an event that delivers a shocking experience and sets the stage for the core conflict of their inter-caste love story.
Despite receiving mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences, Dhadak 2 underperformed at the box office, earning only INR 29 crores against its reported INR 50–60 crore budget. However, strong word-of-mouth seems to have boosted its OTT release; early reactions on Netflix are highly positive.
Viewers have praised Dhadak 2 as a bold, raw, and intense romantic drama that also addresses caste issues, adapting the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal with respect and sincerity. While many appreciate the film’s intent, some feel it lacks the relentless intensity of the original. Still, it delivers shocking, gut-punch moments, particularly during the interval.
Siddhant Chaturvedi’s performance has earned widespread acclaim, with viewers lauding his emotional range. Triptii Dimri also impresses with a vulnerable and nuanced portrayal. The film is being applauded for its grounded realism and powerful acting, sparking meaningful conversations about social issues despite technical flaws like abrupt edits and uneven pacing.
Those abrupt cuts stem from the CBFC’s decision to make 16 significant edits before clearing the film for release, reportedly toning down some of its anti-caste references.
Yes, Dhadak 2 struggled at the box office, but its Netflix run could tell a different story. Limited promotion and stiff competition contributed to its theatrical underperformance. On Netflix, it competes on a level playing field and has the advantage of a strong critical reception and positive word-of-mouth to boost viewership.
Romantic dramas have always been loved by Indian audiences. Saiyaara, after a spectacular theatrical run, is thriving on OTT as well. Its mass appeal, combined with a hit soundtrack, Mohit Suri’s confident direction, and the impressive debuts of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has translated into massive streaming success.
Dhadak 2, on the other hand, is a serious blend of romance and social drama whose streaming performance relies heavily on word-of-mouth. But as a film that blends romance with powerful social commentary, it may carve its own path to success on Netflix.
While a film like Saiyaara, with its popular music and commercial romantic structure, is designed for both theatrical and streaming success, Dhadak 2’s intense, socially conscious narrative feels uniquely suited to the streaming space. The privacy of home viewing lowers the barrier for entry, allowing audiences to engage with its difficult themes without the pressure of a theatrical setting.
Despite its box office struggles and the cuts implemented by CBFC, Dhadak 2 is now poised to find the audience it deserves. If early Netflix reactions are anything to go by, this sequel could easily become a massive streaming success.
Here are some of the first reactions to Dhadak 2 on OTT!
Just finished watching Dhadak 2…
Absolutely a masterpiece ♥️#ShaziaIqbal— Pradeep Shanti (@pradeepkr_) September 26, 2025
Dhadak 2 > Saiyaara.

Caste as a lived experience is deeply familiar to Indian audiences, so much is understood between the lines. In Dhadak 2, despite heavy censoring and cuts, the emotional truth and political essence remain powerfully communicated. There’s no reason Homebound cannot do the same.

“jinke saath yeh sab nahi hota unhe aisa hi lagta hai ki yeh sab nahi hota” dhadak 2 is heartbreakingly good. you just see what ditches this country is still in. from a living room in a tier 1 city because you cannot do anything.

Dhadak 2 is brutal. A very difficult watch. More so when you understand the violence it portrays.
Siddhant & Tripti Dimri are excellent. Zakir Hussain is brilliant. Vipin Sharma is fantabulous.
Kudos to Shazia Iqbal. She spares no one.— Rohit anand (@rohit_dr_infi) September 25, 2025
Finished #Dhadak2 on #Netflix. The film has some powerful moments, but I was left wanting more. So many unanswered questions, and the climax felt a little rushed. Still worth a watch for the performances! ✨ #Dhadak2Review #SiddhantChaturvedi #TriptiiDimri pic.twitter.com/dEjUkqdvAk

Any directors from #Mollywood listening. @tripti_dimri23 is ready and absolutely apt to be cast in a malayalam movie. Would love to see her on screen with everyone. Absolute natural. #Dhadak2

If you can take Pariyerum and rewrite it to #Dhadak2 I would say Bollywood stands tall. A royal salute to the whole team of Dhadak. Wow. Just wow.
It's a rarest of rare that a bollywood remake is better than the original in terms of writing @DharmaMovies
