In the high-stakes world of Indian cinema, few films manage to conquer both the box office and the digital landscape with such absolute dominance. Yet, Aditya Dhar’s spy-action thriller Dhurandhar has done exactly that.
As fans brace for the theatrical arrival of the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, on March 19, the original film has etched its name into the history books. According to recent data, the prequel has officially set a record for Indian films on Netflix, clocking a staggering 22 million views (220 lakh) in just over a month since its January 30 digital debut.
Within its first three days, Dhurandhar secured 7.6 million views, dethroning previous record-holders like Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal (6.2M) and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule (5.8M).
Now, the film has spent five consecutive weeks in the Netflix Global Top 10 (Non-English) list, peaking at the #9 spot worldwide.
Its appeal has crossed borders, trending at #1 in nations like Bangladesh, Mauritius, and Nigeria, and remarkably becoming a viral sensation in Pakistan, where its theatrical release was restricted due to its gritty geopolitical themes.
The Netflix record is the crowning achievement of a journey that began in December 2025. In theatres, Dhurandhar was a force of nature, grossing over INR 1,30o crore worldwide.
Starring Ranveer Singh as the enigmatic undercover agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi (alias Hamza), the film’s grounded realism, featuring characters inspired by real-life figures like Ajit Doval and Pakistani police officer Chaudhary Aslam, resonated with an audience hungry for bloody and brutal action.
The timing of this Netflix record couldn’t be better. With the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, just days away, the “Dhurandhar-verse” is at a fever pitch.
The sequel’s trailer has already sent shockwaves through social media, teasing Hamza’s rise to become the “King of Lyari” and the long-awaited reveal of the mysterious antagonist, Bade Sahab (rumoured to be played by Emraan Hashmi).
Early indicators suggest the sequel will be even bigger. Its paid previews have already shattered records, surpassing the booking numbers of Stree 2. Strategically releasing across five languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam) during the festive window of Eid and Gudi Padwa, Dhurandhar 2 is poised to challenge its predecessor’s historic benchmarks. Stay tuned for more updates.
