The saturation of OTT platforms is becoming evident, with recent series struggling to perform well. There were high hopes for Season 2 of “Taaza Khabar” on Disney+ Hotstar, but it has also disappointed. Despite extensive promotion and marketing, the buzz around it has been quite low.
Popular YouTuber Bhuvan Bam made a significant leap from creating vines on YouTube to starring in a major Hotstar show like “Taaza Khabar”. The first season received unanimous praise from both audiences and critics. The show garnered massive hype in 202__ when movies were being rejected, and series were gaining immense popularity.
However, with the release of Season 2, there seems to be something off. While the trailer achieved impressive view counts, the show hasn’t generated the same excitement as the first season. It’s been two days since its release, yet the buzz remains minimal.
Not only is the show receiving mixed reviews, but it also lacks the novelty that made the first season special. Additionally, the dismal reception may be due to several factors, one of which is Bhuvan’s growing distance from his core audience. Social media stars, like Bhuvan, often have a young fanbase, which matures over time. As these fans grow older and Bhuvan becomes less active on YouTube, there is a noticeable gap between the original audience and new viewers. This is a challenge not typically faced by Bollywood stars but is common for social media influencers.
In Bhuvan’s case, his initial audience has grown up, and now that he’s not as regular on YouTube, the hype surrounding him isn’t as strong as it was during the first season.
This trend is not unique to Bhuvan but affects all content creators. They must constantly produce content, or they risk losing their audience’s interest. As a result, producers are shifting back towards traditional actors for long-term sustainability instead of relying on social media stars. We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
