After a long, long wait Nandita Das’ ‘Zwigato’ is finally ready for its digital debut. After having its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, ‘Zwigato’ made its way to Indian theatres last year in March and ever since people have been waiting for it to land on OTT and looks like the makers have finally cracked the deal.
‘Zwigato’ is about an ex-floor manager of a factory who loses his job during the pandemic. He then works as a food delivery rider, grappling with the world of ratings and incentives. To support the income, his homemaker wife begins to explore different work opportunities, with fear but also excitement of a new found independence. The film is about the relentlessness of life, but not without their shared moments of joy. It captures the lives of invisible ‘ordinary’ people, hidden in plain sight.
‘Zwigato’ is not your mass-centric, A-list starrer film, yet it managed to impress both critics and public who poured praises on the film for its brilliant writing, heartfelt storyline, impeccable performances, deft direction and more.
Despite such acclaim, a film like ‘Zwigato’ does find it hard to attract the audience in theatres and that’s why its OTT presence becomes so important. And now that it’s coming to Prime Video on October 25, the film will finally and hopefully get the public reception it so rightfully deserves.
Directed by Nandita Das, ‘Zwigato’ stars Kapil Sharma, Shahana Goswami, Gul Panag, Sayani Gupta, Swanand Kirkire and Tushar Acharya. Produced by Applause Entertainment, ‘Zwigato’ will deliver straight to your hearts this October 25.
