It is all over the news now.
Bengali filmmaker Raj Chakraborty is stepping into Hindi OTT with a romantic thriller series.
And while the excitement around the cast is understandable, it’s worth asking whether the project will offer something beyond the usual tropes. The series, still untitled, brings together Priyanshu Painyuli, Parambrata Chatterjee, Sumeet Vyas, and Aditi Pohankar, actors known for their strong screen presence.
Priyanshu reportedly plays a layered character, and his preparation, going as far as coding classes to understand ethical hacking for another film, speaks of his dedication.
But dedication alone doesn’t always translate to a compelling show. Aditi Pohankar adds her spark, and Parambrata Chatterjee lends credibility, but the challenge for Chakraborty will be balancing star power with a story that feels fresh rather than just glamorous.
Especially making it his Hindi OTT Debut, it needs to work.
Shooting across Kolkata and Darjeeling promises visual appeal, yet in an era where content drives OTT success, the real question is whether the series can surprise or just play it safe. With talented actors on board, it has potential, but ultimately, the audience will look for depth and engagement, not just familiar faces and scenic locations.
This debut could be a strong start, or a reminder that OTT demands more than just a good cast. But if the Bengali industry wants to be recognised again in a pan Indian space, projects like these need to work.
