The International Film Festival of India only introduced the Best OTT Series category two years ago, and this year marks its third run. In such a short span the award has already become a marker of how rapidly the streaming space has evolved in India. This year’s nominations reflect exactly that growth. Suzhal The Vortex Season 2, Mitti Ek Nayi Pehchaan, Paatal Lok Season 2, Black Warrant and Bandish Bandits Season 2 are all strong contenders and each one represents a different tone and texture of Indian storytelling. It is a genuinely solid lineup with nothing that feels like filler.
Still, if we look at impact, craft and the sheer scale of conversation it triggered, Paatal Lok Season 2 rises above the rest. The series didn’t just return with more of the same. It pushed itself into darker themes, sharper politics and a more emotional narrative grip. It is rare for a follow up season in India to match the first one, even rarer to surpass it, and Paatal Lok Season 2 managed to do exactly that. The writing is tighter, the world building is richer and the performances are on another level. This is the kind of show that travels beyond its home audience. It earned attention outside India through the strength of what it put on screen.
That international buzz matters. Very few Indian series have managed to break out in a way that invites comparison with global content. Paatal Lok Season 2 belongs in that bracket. It carries a weight and ambition that shows how high Indian web series can aim when they are not afraid to be bold.
Of course, the rest of the nominees are impressive in their own right. Each series deserves its place on the list. But if the award is looking for a show that best represents the peak of Indian OTT storytelling this year then Paatal Lok Season 2 feels like the deserving winner.
