Kapil Sharma’s Netflix Show Finally Gets It Right

By Binged Bureau - Jan 22, 2026 @ 06:01 pm
Kapil Sharma’s Netflix Show Finally Gets It Right

Season 4 of The Great Indian Kapil Show undeniably feels like a “reboot” in terms of its production value, cast performances, and overall impact. After the experimental nature of the first few seasons on Netflix, Season 4 finally seems to have found its stride.

The first three seasons received heavy criticism for recycling the same brand of humour that once catapulted Kapil and the rest of his crew from their golden days on Colors to great heights. Despite lavish, vibrant sets and a more cinematic flair, the show felt off to many viewers, who believed the earlier seasons lacked freshness.

It’s not that Season 4 has completely flipped the script. It has retained much of the style and format of previous seasons, but it has introduced some crucial changes, and these have worked out quite beautifully.

This time, Kapil doesn’t limit himself to being a host who merely asks questions of celebrity guests. Instead, we see him playing diverse roles such as Gen Z Baba and Tau Ji, breaking the monotony of just being the “host”. The comedian-turned-actor followed a similar strategy during his traditional television days, and this refreshed set of characters seems to be resonating well with viewers.

One of the most talked-about shifts in The Great Indian Kapil Show this season is Kapil Sharma’s newfound boldness in weaving political satire and sharp sarcasm into his set. While he has always been known for his quick wit, the move to Netflix seems to have uncaged him from the stricter censorship of traditional cable TV. This season, Kapil has been leaning into meta-humour about the political landscape, a strategy which has worked well for the show.

Another important shift this season is its focus on guests who dominate social media conversations. Opening the season with a global icon like Priyanka Chopra Jonas was a masterstroke, significantly boosting viewership and social media virality.

Moreover, episodes featuring the Indian Women’s Cricket Team (following their World Cup win) and the trio of Yuvraj Singh, Sehwag, and Kaif delivered organic, unscripted moments that went viral on Reels.

In addition, the episode featuring Bhojpuri stars such as Pawan Singh and Nirahua was well received by audiences.

Most importantly, Sunil Grover has emerged as this season’s MVP, once again. His Aamir Khan impersonation, in particular, became such a viral sensation that it even prompted the real Aamir Khan to recently shoot an advertisement with him.

Say what you will about Archana Singh Puri and Navjot Singh Siddhu, but a significant section of Indian viewers clearly enjoys watching them, and Season 4’s viewership reflects that. The rest of the cast, including Kiku Sharda and Krushna Abhishek, also look better than before.

The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 4 is now streaming on Netflix India.
