Sure, the advent of OTT platforms have brought the world to our fingertips in terms of both, global and domestic content. But does this mean that OTT platforms can use audiences as scapegoats for below-average titles that quite literally lack any plot and depth?
That clearly seems to be the case. Case in point: the recently released romantic drama film on JioCinema ‘Krispy Rishtey’. Not only does the title in itself sounds like the epitome of cringe, it has also, unsurprisingly, not been received well by the audience.
The meagre viewership that the title has even managed to garner, is solely by virtue of users who had nothing else to watch, because the only selling point of the film, really, seems to be the part of its soundtrack sung by Shreya Ghoshal. Apart from that, simply put, there is not much going on in the film.
A mediocre and no-surprise plot and over-the-top acting. These are not components that can make films stay afloat. Which is to say, if direct-to-OTT release has become the formula for such films, it is about them for platforms like JioCinema to become more stringent with what they allow to become a part of their viewing libraries.
