Munawar Faruqui is undoubtedly one of the most polarising figures in the history of the Indian OTT space. Despite a controversial past, particularly related to his stand-up career, Faruqui’s name alone is enough to attract a large audience. His latest reality game show, The Society, has done just that.
As part of JioHotstar’s Sparks section, The Society generated significant hype ahead of its release. While critics haven’t responded favourably to the show, the audience, especially Munawar’s fanbase, is thrilled with it.
As a result, The Society has garnered over 27 lakh views within the first four days of its OTT release (on July 21). Based on its current momentum and popularity, the show is likely to surpass the 1 crore views mark in the coming days.
Faruqui’s previous show, Hafta Vasooli, was also a massive streaming success, earning over 1.1 crore views to date.
It’s worth noting that only a handful of shows on JioHotstar’s Sparks have crossed the 1 crore viewership mark. The growing craze around The Society could help it surpass Hafta Vasooli, and possibly even 7 Days Live (featuring Anubhav Singh Bassi), which has more than 1.6 crore views.
Munawar Faruqui continues to be a major draw in the Indian OTT landscape, proving that his controversial past hasn’t deterred his audience. This rapid surge in viewership highlights Faruqui’s undeniable impact on streaming platforms. The Society is now well-positioned to become one of the most-watched shows on JioHotstar’s Sparks.
