When Panchayat first arrived, it wasn’t trying to be loud or flashy. It simply invited us into a quiet village and let us breathe there. Under Deepak Kumar Mishra’s direction, the show thrived on its warmth, humour, and gentle storytelling. It didn’t need twists or high drama to hold our attention, its magic was in the simplicity.
But with Season 4 now streaming, a shift is hard to ignore. And while the cast remains largely the same, many fans are feeling like the soul of Panchayat has taken a backseat. This season was helmed by new director Shubham Yogi, and that change in hands is where a lot of the disappointment is being pinned.
What once felt light and effortless now feels… heavy. The charm that made us fall in love with Phulera, the long pauses, the small talk, the emotional silences, is replaced with a tone that’s louder and more dramatic. There’s more politics, more tension, and yet, somehow, less heart.
It’s not that the new season is terrible, it has its moments. But the balance feels off. The writing feels tighter, more conscious of expectations, and in that process, loses the looseness that made the earlier seasons so real.
Fans aren’t angry, more than anything, they seem heartbroken. Because Panchayat wasn’t just a show. It was a feeling. And Season 4, for all its effort, struggles to recreate that feeling.
Sometimes, the hardest thing about growing bigger is staying the same.
