Mandala Murders, produced by YRF Entertainment and led by Vaani Kapoor, debuted on Netflix with high hopes. But despite all the buzz, it only managed to reach the 9th spot on Netflix’s global non-English Top 10 list. For a show backed by a major production house and fronted by a well-known face, this isn’t terrible, but it’s far from great.
YRF’s entry into the OTT space has been ambitious, and this was expected to be one of their flagship shows. The marketing was kinda sush, the production looked good, and the cast included popular and critically respected actors. Yet, the audience response hasn’t matched the scale of the launch.
The likely reason is poor execution. Critics and viewers alike pointed out the show’s uneven pacing, confusing storytelling, and overcomplicated mythology. While the concept of ritual murders tied to ancient cult practices sounded promising, the writing failed to build real suspense or emotional depth. As a result, Mandala Murders became another title that looked good on paper but didn’t connect with viewers in the way it should have.
Word of mouth has also played a key role. In the age of instant reviews and social media chatter, early reactions can make or break a series. In this case, the buzz just wasn’t strong enough to pull in a global audience.
For now, Mandala Murders sits in the Top 10, but only just. And that’s a clear signal: big names aren’t enough without tight storytelling.
