Netflix India had a lot to celebrate in 2024. Several films and series captured hearts both locally and globally. Tanya Bami, Netflix India’s series head, shared her views on the platform’s remarkable year, with titles that kept audiences hooked.
If we see the arc of Netflix India, then 2023 was a truly remarkable year. Looks like they cracked open the formula to attract Indian audiences and that’s why we are seeing such great growth in Netflix India in terms of subscriber count.
The biggest highlight was Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. This show became Netflix India’s biggest success of the year, with viewers mesmerised by its stunning visuals, unforgettable characters, and deeply emotional storytelling. The world of courtesans, portrayed in a rich and immersive way resonated with audiences everywhere. Fans couldn’t stop talking about the iconic ‘Gajagamini’ walk and recreating dance routines from the show. Dubbed in 13 languages, it broke barriers and reached a massive global audience.
Another hit was IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, a gripping hijack drama by Anubhav Sinha. It became an instant binge-watch favourite, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. The series showcased the power of a good thriller and further proved how Indian stories resonate far beyond their roots.
Netflix also saw the return of beloved shows like Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein, which continued its usual drama on love and relationships in its second season.
The biggest highlight according to Bami has to be the feature of an Indian title in the Global Netflix Top 10 every week.
2024 was truly a year of pride for Netflix India, as it not only entertained but also brought Indian stories to the global stage like never before.
