The trailer for Toaster (Netflix) has finally landed, and it stars Rajkummar Rao as a “strict kanjoos”, the king of all cheap men. The film’s first look promises a high-octane dark comedy where a household appliance becomes the centre of a life-or-death scenario.
At its heart, Toaster is a story about a “kanjoos” (miser) named Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao). We all know someone who hates wasting money, but Ramakant takes frugality to a pathological level.
The trailer kicks off with a simple wedding gift, a INR 7,000 toaster. When the marriage it was intended for dissolves almost immediately, Ramakant doesn’t see a tragedy, he sees a refund opportunity.
His obsession with getting back his toaster puts him on a wild ride of mishaps and even a murder.
Rajkummar Rao looks in fine form as Ramakant. Whether he’s justifying his stinginess or navigating a crime scene with a toaster in hand, his comic timing is impeccable. This film also marks a personal milestone for him, as it is the debut production of Kampa Films, the production house he founded with his wife, Patralekhaa.
Sanya Malhotra stars alongside Rao, and their chemistry remains solid. In Toaster, she appears to be the perfect foil to Ramakant’s madness, alternating between being his partner-in-crime and the voice of reason as their simple retrieval mission spirals into a web of murder and mayhem.
Apart from Rao and Malhotra, we get Upendra Limaye, Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Seema Pahwa, and Farah Khan in the supporting cast.
Helmed by Vivek Das Chaudhary, Toaster is set to arrive on Netflix on April 15. Mark your calendars. Stay tuned for more updates. Here’s the official trailer!
