In the wise words of Thor aka Chris Hemsworth: The only thing that is permanent, is impermanence.
OTT platforms back in 2018 were taking baby steps towards the growth that has now become exponential. They are now one of the rare things that continue to bind people across the world. It was films, first.
With the COVID-19 lockdown forcing people inside their homes, OTT platforms boomed with the release of film after film, as well as TV shows. Perhaps it was the absence of big Bollywood names that came as a breath of fresh air for viewers, and attributed to the rise of OTT platforms.
However, that is no longer the case. The OTT space is no longer a stranger to big names from any Indian cinema industry. Considering recent releases like ‘Call Me Bae’, it seems as though OTT platforms have become a haven for big names that have not quite succeeded in performing for the golden screen.
On the other hand, however, OTT platforms have also succeeded in making previously lesser known names, commonly mentioned household names, with releases like ‘Panchayat’, and more.
None of this is to say that OTT platforms shouldn’t feature films and shows led by established names, it is only to hope that due space is provided to those who deserve it at the end of the day.
