JioHotstar is all set to drop a chaotic family comedy drama, The Great Shamsuddin Family, helmed by ‘Peepli Live’ fame, Anusha Rizvi. The plot revolves around Bani Ahmed (played by Kritika Kamra), a writer facing an important 12-hour deadline, whose focus is completely disrupted when her family descends into chaos at her residence.
A large ensemble cast featuring names like Farida Jalal, Purab Kohli, Sheeba Chaddha, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Juhi Babbar, Dolly Ahluwalia, Nishank Verma, and Natasha Rastogi rounds out the film.
The latest trailer shows the film’s events taking place over a single day in Delhi, focusing on Bani as her apartment is suddenly filled with various relatives, including mothers, aunts, cousins, and past partners, each arriving with their own urgent problems.
While managing this chaotic situation, Bani must also navigate challenging interfaith issues, conflicts between generations, and complex family expectations. Ultimately, she is forced to choose between advancing her career abroad and staying loyal to her family.
Director Anusha Rizvi explains that the film’s essence is not just the chaotic interruptions but how an exasperating family can profoundly and inescapably shape a person, hoping the audience will connect with characters who resemble their own disruptive yet well-meaning relatives.
The Great Shamsuddin Family already looks like a strong addition to JioHotstar’s content library, thanks to Anusha Rizvi’s touch and its extensive focus on modern family dynamics and generational conflicts, making it a highly relevant and exciting watch for viewers.
Moreover, the inclusion of beloved veteran actors like Farida Jalal and Dolly Ahluwalia immediately lends a sense of warmth, familiarity, and credibility, drawing in older audiences who associate them with classic, wholesome entertainment.
The Great Shamsuddin Family is set to premiere on JioHotstar on 12 December. Stay tuned for more updates. Here’s the new trailer!
