Saif Ali Khan has been a great performer over the years and has portrayed several over-the-top roles which have been liked by the audience, yet have been under poor reviews sometimes. But Saif continues to take up roles that challenge him as an actor and provides a wide array of personas in his films.
One such film which wasn’t a successful one during its release was Laal Kaptaan. The plot of this vengeance drama revolves around the life of Gossain played by Saif Ali Khan, a Naga Sadhu who also works as a bounty hunter, killing for gold coins.
The story takes place in the late 1700s, with snippets of the Battle of Buxar and the early years of the British East India Company. In addition, Gossain seeks retribution which is the main part of the movie.
Speaking of the overall film, it is sloppy at times and needs more pace to set up the viewer’s interest. It starts on a great tone and delivers high-octane moments consistently which will surely hook you up.
The main highlight of this film despite its flaws is the cinematography. Action sequences are thinkable and have a realistic affect which can be seen throughout the movie.
