Prime Video India has set a new precedent for amplifying diverse voices by introducing the most recent installment of ‘Maitri: Female First Collective,’ an initiative that brings together women in Indian entertainment to celebrate successes, discuss obstacles, and come up with solutions.
Established in 2022, this group provides a platform for notable women from the Indian media and entertainment industry to participate in open discussions and share their individual experiences, achievements, and change-oriented goals.
Seven notable women from India’s media and entertainment sectors are featured in the session launched today. They include actors Ananya Panday and Kritika Kamra, director and writer Tanuja Chandra, screenwriter and creator Ishita Moitra, journalist Faye D’Souza, founder and editor of Beatroot News, and writer Tanuja Chandra. Smriti Kiran, creator and curator of Maitri and inventor of Polka Dots LightBox, led the discussion.
The attendees related personal tales about how the female gaze is essential to shifting the narratives and producing deeper, more nuanced on-screen representations. The panelists also discussed how women’s roles in the business are changing.
They pointed out that women now have more chances to speak up and challenge gender stereotypes, which leads to more realistic and nuanced portrayals of female characters. Amazon Prime Video and the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) are working together to promote awareness of women’s important role in the entertainment industry through Maitri: Female First Collective.
