Streaming platforms have become part of our daily lives. We switch between Netflix, JioHotstar, and Prime Video without thinking twice. But recently, one thing stood out, something that feels unnecessary and frankly, unfair.
A Prime Lite user with an active subscription (provided by Amazon) tried to remove a device from their Prime Video account. The response from the customer executive was shocking: “You can remove only 2 devices per month. If you want to remove more, wait 30 days.”
Here’s the issue…
None of the other major platforms follow this constraint. Netflix allows switching and managing devices seamlessly. JioHotstar doesn’t stop you from logging out from multiple devices in one go.
But Prime Video, especially Prime Lite, puts a limit on removing devices.
Why should a paying customer wait 30 days to manage their own subscription?
Think about it, what happens if the user logs in on a hotel TV by mistake? Or logs in at a friend’s place and forgets to log out? Why should they be forced to wait a month just to remove an unwanted device from their account?
Streaming is supposed to be flexible.
That’s the entire point of OTT.
When platforms start restricting basic control, like managing devices, it feels less like a subscription and more like a walled garden.
Prime Video needs to rethink this policy. Users today expect convenience, transparency, and control. If other platforms can allow it, why can’t Prime?
Sometimes, the simplest customer freedom is the best user experience.
