JioHotstar undoubtedly struck gold with Special Ops Season 1, establishing a high bar for Indian espionage thrillers. The gritty realism, intricate plot, and Kay Kay Menon’s iconic portrayal of Himmat Singh captivated audiences. However, the recently released Special Ops 2 has faced a more mixed reception.

The newest Salakaar trailer, while walking a fine line between sufficiently jingoistic and overly jingoistic, teases plenty of stylish and hard-hitting action sequences, a gripping storyline, and strong performances from Kasturia, Mouni Roy, Mukesh Rishi, and the rest of the cast.
The clip also reveals that the show’s timeline switches between the years 1978 and 2025, an intriguing narrative element if handled with care.
While Special Ops 2 may not have replicated the groundbreaking success of its predecessor, its mixed reception serves as a valuable lesson for JioHotstar. Maintaining the high standards set by flagship productions is crucial for an OTT platform aiming for consistent critical and audience acclaim.
