Salman Khan’s forthcoming project, Maatrubhumi, has been all over social media for some time, but not for the right reasons. Originally titled Battle of Galwan, the movie was supposed to shed light on the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese forces.
However, as per reports, because of the highly sensitive nature of international relations between the two countries and due to the government’s intervention, the project has undergone a massive transformation.
There are also reports that nearly 35-40% of the movie has been reshot, with new scenes and subplots. These new scenes include backstories and emotional subplots involving actress Chitrangda Singh, who plays a key role alongside Salman.
The title was changed to Maatrubhumi (Motherland), and the story was reportedly adjusted to focus more on general military bravery rather than naming China.
Recently, rumours started circulating on social media that the film would skip the big screen and release directly on a streaming platform (OTT). The buzz suggested that the makers wanted to avoid the strict editing requests from the Censor Board and the Ministry of Defence.
However, sources close to Salman Khan have cleared the air, stating that the film is still intended for a grand theatrical release. Despite the rumours, Salman remains a firm believer in the cinema experience, and the team is working toward a traditional premiere.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the movie aims to balance gritty action with the human side of a soldier’s life, moving away from the typical “hero” vibe of Salman’s previous action films.
As of now, the release is looking toward May 2026. While the production has faced many hurdles, from international backlash to major script changes, the anticipation remains high. Fans are eager to see if this shift toward a more serious, patriotic drama will pay off.
Whether it hits theatres in the summer or settles into an Independence Day slot, Maatrubhumi is shaping up to be one of the most unique and hard-earned films of Salman Khan’s career. Stay tuned for more updates.
