Sony Entertainment’s one of the most popular shows Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) has been running for more than a decade now. In due course of time, it took several innovative approaches that made the show more interesting and the audience more engaged. With the advent of OTT platforms, where Sony Entertainment came with its own platform, people got an option to stream the show via OTT.
To make the audience more engaged the show came up with the idea of ‘Play Along Game’ which enabled the OTT streaming viewers to simultaneously watch the show and answer questions in the app while streaming. Participants were awarded points for each correct answer. The top 10 participants with the most points are awarded a fixed cash prize.
Even after several years of this feature having been introduced, still fans are complaining of the issues they are facing. Due to the KBC play along feature, people are finding it difficult to cast their screens into their TVs. The play along feature has not been updated with respect to TV devices (probably) which is causing this issue. Many people who do not want to play the game and just enjoy the show (on a bigger screen) are complaining about the same.
The game itself has many bugs of which the participant suffers from every week. Many times the game cannot load questions, or even if it loads, there is a small time-window to answer, making it near to impossible for the participant to secure a win. Some participants even face the problem of points getting added incorrectly, or points not being awarded for a correct answer or points being deducted for no reason; which drags them down in the ranking list.
Furthermore, the helplines in the app are also flawed. When selecting a lifeline, a participant gets only 2 seconds to answer the question. The biggest concern is however, people not even getting their prizes. One of the participants was declared the winner of the game for an episode, but even after a long time and after complaining several times, he was not awarded the prize. The reason was the documents had not been verified.
All these flaws and bugs in the space are making it difficult for the people to engage with the show (especially via OTT). People are sure to lose interest in the show if this persists. The concept, though good, its bad execution makes it problematic.

There’s no Play Along option on the iPad either but still I can’t chromecast it.
