The buzz around Subedaar has been impossible to ignore since it dropped on Prime Video. After years of playing the charming dad or the suave businessman, Anil Kapoor has finally gone back to his roots as an action star. Early reactions from viewers are mostly positive. At nearly 70, Kapoor isn’t just “still got it”, he’s outperforming actors half his age with a performance that feels raw, gritty, and incredibly grounded.
The story itself hits that sweet spot between a classic 80s revenge flick and a modern social thriller. Kapoor plays Arjun Maurya, a retired Subedaar who just wants a quiet life in Madhya Pradesh. Of course, things go south when he bumps heads with the local sand mafia.
The film focuses on his red Jeep, which is basically his prized possession, and when the villains mess with it, they accidentally wake up a sleeping lion. It’s a simple setup, but the way it’s shot makes it feel huge.
Mona Singh looks amazing as Babli Didi, playing a mafia boss who runs her empire from a jail cell. It’s a total 180 from the roles we usually see her in, and she absolutely nails the menace.
Then you’ve got Radhikka Madan, who plays Arjun’s daughter. Their relationship is the heart of the movie. They don’t talk much, but you can feel the tension and the love in every scene. It’s not just about punches and explosions. It’s about a family trying to heal.
Of course, viewers and critics on social media have some notes. Some felt the movie was a bit too long, especially with a side plot about college bullying that felt like it belonged in a different film.
Others mentioned that the “chapter” style of storytelling was a bit fancy for a straightforward action movie. But even with those small gripes, the consensus is clear: the action is top-notch. The fight scenes aren’t over-the-top superhero stuff. They’re messy, brutal, and feel real.

Watched #Subedaar and it's like a mini Jack Reacher of India or concept you would see in Hollywood that a retired personal is dealing with the corrupt system.
Loved the cameo of Another Veteran actor and "A VETERAN"
