The horror comedy The Bhootnii, starring the likes of Sanjay Dutt and Mouni Roy, has found a release date on ZEE5. It is scheduled to premiere on Friday, July 18, at 8 PM. The leading man has also co-produced this one with Deepak Mukut. Sidhaant Sachdev directed and wrote the film.
Apart from Sanjay Dutt and Mouni Roy, the movie also stars Sunny Singh, Aasif Khan, Nikunj Lotia, and Palak Tiwari.
Set within the walls of the fictional St. Vincent’s College in Delhi, The Bhootnii’s story centers on a peculiar “Virgin Tree”—believed to be a magical love charm for romantics, especially on Valentine’s Day. However, its presence is tied to unsettling events: each year, a student mysteriously dies the night before Holika Dahan. According to local legend, a vengeful female spirit haunts the tree, claiming a soul annually.
After one such mysterious death, heartbroken student Shantanu (Sunny Singh) seeks love at the tree, only for Mohabbat (Mouni Roy) to become dangerously obsessed with him. Paranormal expert Baba (Sanjay Dutt) is called in to uncover the ghost’s tragic past and resolve the supernatural chaos.
The horror comedy originally hit theatres on May 1 and received mixed reviews from both audiences and critics. It also failed to charm at the box office, emerging as a commercial flop as it was able to recover only 42% of its total budget. But with its upcoming OTT release, it now has a chance to redeem itself as a streaming success.
However, The Bhootnii’s journey to redemption won’t be easy, as it’s not the only title releasing on July 18. The highly anticipated Special Ops 2 is also dropping the same day. This Kay Kay Menon–starrer espionage thriller could steal the spotlight and dampen The Bhootnii’s OTT debut in terms of viewership. Let’s see what happens. Stay tuned for more updates.
