Vikramaditya Motwane, a versatile director, producer and screenwriter, who has movies like “Lootera”, “Udaan” and many more underrated gems in his bag, as well as Motwane was the creator of Netflix’s first Indian series “Sacred Games”.
And now he is coming back with his movie “CTRL” which is a technology driven thriller .
In 2010 Motwane started his journey with his first movie “Udaan”. In that movie we could see how he depicted the themes of coming of age, the emotional journey of a teen, and most importantly the aspect of freedom, in a realistic manner.
Since “Udaan” we understood how he conveys his stories which connect to people.
His simple yet very intricately woven storyline is the key aspect of his movies.
His second film was “Lootera”, which is an adaptation of O. Henry’s 1907 short story, “The Last Leaf”.
Here we can see a shift, “Udaan” which talks about family dynamics and a child’s freedom to “Lootera” which is a pure period drama.
But, if we focus keenly on them we will see how beautifully he depicted the poetic imagery and how effortlessly he made the movie flow in one thread which still emerges from catharsis when we see the movie.
Now if we talk about thinking beyond the boundaries he is ahead of that as well, in 2016 he made an experimental survival thriller “Trapped” starring Rajkummar Rao.
As well as in 2018 he made “Bhavesh Joshi Superhero” where he included the superhero elements to showcase India’s socio political structure.
So, Vikramaditya Motwane is no doubt a valedictorian when it comes to his storyline and films.
Now, if we come to his new project “CTRL” it tells a completely different story, which in Vikramaditya Motwane’s filmography hasn’t been done before.
According to the sources, the story revolves around two influencer couples , until the man cheats on her. Now she has turned to an Ai App to erase him from his life, until that Ai takes control .
This movie has high potential to bend the thriller category, as it is a completely new concept in the Bollywood industry.
Because this movie belongs to a completely different section we can put our faith in his direction and observe how he captured the emotional turmoil of the characters.
Probably we will be able to see a new version of Motwane’s storytelling.
“CTRL” stars Ananya Panday and Vihaan Samat, and it is set to premiere on Netflix on 4 October 2024.
From “Udaan” to now “CTRL” the journey was quite long, so anticipation surrounding this movie is higher than average.
