The political situation between India and Pakistan has never really been stable stable. Even in our movies, Pakistanis are these agents of menace. So is true about Pakistani movies as they show our Indian soldiers in a bad light without any mercy.
But let’s talk about art. Pakistani artists have always been celebrated in India. People like Ghulam Ali, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and Mehndi Hassan are celebrated more in India than in India. Even today, people like Ali Sethi, Meesha Shafi and Atif Aslam are huge stars in India.
One such artist from the good old days is Reshma. Remember the song “Lambi Judaai” from Hero?
She was the soul-wrenching voice behind the iconic and painful song. The singer did not have many songs in Bollywood but she was a huge star in the Pakistani music industry.
She has sung many many songs in her distinctive voice and one of them was “Ankhiyan Nu Rehn De Ankhiya De Kol Kol”. The lady could never train herself in singing but her Punjabi songs are a part of the canon.
The song and music inspired Lata Mangeshkar’s “Ankhiyon Ko Rehne De” from the 1972 blockbuster Bobby.
But what has it got to do with Do Patti?
Do Patti has taken Reshma’s song and completely destroyed it with a remix that is a sort of abomination. That’s the reason Pakistani people are trolling Do Patti for ruining the song of Reshma who is a major figure in Pakistan’s music.
Well, it will not affect the views of the film but the embarrassment is justified. Instead of focusing on making “good” original songs, if they just destroy good Pakistani songs then they will definitely troll India’s music industry. These trolls become even more painful for the fans of Indian music when Coke Studio Pakistan is killing it on the international stage.
