The first season revolves around Charles Nieuwendyk (Danson), who is hired as an investigative assistant for private detective Julie Kovalenko (Lilah Richcreek Estrada). As part of his job, Charles goes undercover at the Pacific View Retirement Community in San Francisco to locate a missing ruby necklace. Along with the aforementioned talents, we also see Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz and Mary Elizabeth Ellis, who plays Charles’ daughter in the series.
A Man on the Inside is based on Maite Alberdi’s 2020 documentary feature, The Mole Agent. The response to the series has been phenomenal so far, with special praise for Danson’s effortless performance and the show’s warm, witty tone. It has earned a “fresh” critic score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audience reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with Season 1 surpassing 7 million individual views and amassing over 27.8 million hours of viewing within its second week of release.
