The final season of Stranger Things has made history for the series, but not in a good way. Netflix chose a split release for the last season, with four episodes released on November 26, three more on December 25, and the final long episode arriving on New Year’s Eve. While fans waited years for the ending, reactions have been mixed.
One episode in particular has stood out for negative reasons. Season 5, Episode 7, titled “Chapter Seven: The Bridge,” is now the lowest rated episode in the show’s history on IMDb. It currently holds a 5.5 rating from around 68,000 users. The previous lowest rated episode was Season 2’s “The Lost Sister,” which had a 6.0 rating. Most other episodes sit far higher, with even the weaker entries rated close to 8.0. The highest rated episode remains Season 4’s “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab” with a 9.6 score.
Some viewers have criticized Season 5 for repeating old story ideas and weak writing. However, many noticed a huge wave of one star ratings appearing only hours after the episode aired. The episode also gained an unusually high number of reviews in just a few days, more than episodes that have been available for years.
Some believe the backlash may be linked to a scene where Will Byers comes out as gay. While many praised the moment, others reacted negatively, which may have influenced the episode’s rating.
