An ambitious project like Citadel will always have one simple yet consequential problem. That is the execution. The audience reaction has been divided. Amazon released all six episodes at once. Which is a relief in itself, as the slow pacing of the show would have made it forgettable by the time a scheduled episode would have been released. The production quality is top-notch. However, the Indian audience must be having some grievances with the series.
When such large-scale production is underway, including such a large demographic, it is to be kept in mind that the targeted demographic has their own particular taste. While many of the Indian fans were excited to watch Citadel Diana because of Priayanka Chopra being in the first part and Raj & DK managing the third one, Diana manages to subvert the Indian need for masala altogether.
Perhaps the “suspense” that Diana builds up is so cheesily pulled through the six episodes that it makes it boring at times. The series has been a huge project, and since it acts in a large population center like India, it should have kept in mind that the abrupt change in pace would be jarring. The Russo brothers did an interesting job nonetheless; however, the universe lacks certain elements to support its worldbuilding, which should have been its strongest suite.
Overall, Citadel: Diana has been a long watch for most of the audience; there are indeed people who have liked it and will be coming back for the third part title, Honey Bunny. The series will have to win back the audience. The inclusion of India will of course help this cause, but as of now, Diana is projecting itself as the weakest link in the Citadel series.
