Coralie Fargeat’s newest satirical body horror movie, The Substance, will soon be available to stream on MUBI. Apart from directing this twisty, shocking, and slightly creepy project, Fargeat also wrote and co-produced it alongside Working Title Films. The film revolves around a fading celebrity, Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), who, out of desperation, uses a black-market drug to create a younger, more perfect, and more beautiful version of herself, portrayed by Margaret Qualley. Everything seems to go smoothly until the serum begins to show its side effects, wreaking havoc on Sparkle’s life.
The Substance will arrive on MUBI on October 31—just in time for Halloween! The movie’s official X (formerly Twitter) account confirmed the news, sharing a hideous and grotesque close-up of body horror with the caption: “Soon, you can try THE SUBSTANCE in your very own home.”

In addition to Moore and Qualley, the movie stars Dennis Quaid (Harvey), Edward Hamilton Clark (Fred), Gore Abrams (Oliver), Oscar Lesage (Troy), Hugo Diego Garcia (Diego), and more.
The Substance is already a massive critical success, boasting a strong “fresh” score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 300 certified reviews. It also appears to be on track to become a financial success. The film has earned over $34 million against its $17.5 million budget, which is impressive. Stay tuned for more updates.
