After securing its place as an awards-season heavyweight, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia is finally ready to land on OTT.
Starting February 28, 2026, the sci-fi dark comedy-thriller will be available to stream on JioHotstar, ending a four-month wait for Indian audiences eager to see the film that has everyone talking, and checking their bosses for “extraterrestrial” origins.
A loose remake of the 2003 South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia reunites Lanthimos with his frequent muses, Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.
The story follows Teddy (Plemons), a conspiracy-obsessed beekeeper driven to the brink by grief and internet rabbit holes. Convinced that Michelle Fuller (Stone), the high-powered CEO of a pharmaceutical conglomerate, is actually an alien from the Andromeda galaxy plotting Earth’s demise, Teddy and his cousin Don (Aidan Delbis) do the only logical thing. They kidnap her.
What follows is a high-stakes battle of wits. While Michelle attempts to use corporate-grade psychology to manipulate her way out of a basement, Teddy utilises increasingly bizarre methods, including shaving her head, to neutralise her alien powers.
Fresh off their collaborations in Kinds of Kindness, the duo delivers career-best work. Stone’s transformation (yes, she actually shaved her head for the role) is both terrifying and vulnerable, while Plemons does a terrific job as Teddy.
The film is also a critical darling. Bugonia is currently heading into the 98th Academy Awards (scheduled for March 15) with four major nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Stone.
For viewers in India, the wait is almost over. JioHotstar will host the film on its Peacock Hub starting February 28. Stay tuned for more updates.
