HBO’s The Penguin has emerged as a massive hit. It primarily revolves around Oswald “Oz” Cobb, aka Penguin, and his attempts to gain control of Gotham City after the events of Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022). With Colin Farrell doing wonders as the iconic DC villain, the series has been hitting all the right notes so far. But no one, and we mean no one, knew that Lauren LeFranc and her team had an ace up their sleeves right from the get-go. That gorgeous, cunning, psychotic, and ruthless ace is none other than the sensational Cristin Milioti, our on-screen Sofia Falcone. Thanks to her spectacular and jaw-dropping performance in Episode 4, the latest episode has become one of the highest-rated DC episodes of all time on IMDb.
Episode 4 of The Penguin, titled “Cent’Anni,” currently has a highly impressive and well-deserved IMDb rating of 9.5 out of 10. Only two episodes from the DC Universe are rated higher than the latest Cristin Milioti starrer: “Liam Yu” from Season 5, Episode 23 of Arrow, and “Out of Time” from Season 1, Episode 15 of The Flash.
In addition to the stellar performances by Farrell and Milioti, the ongoing DC series is more of a crime drama than a typical superhero adaptation, sharing similarities with all-time classics like The Sopranos, another gem from HBO.
Both critics and fans seem to share this opinion, which has resulted in The Penguin earning a 94% critic score and 91% approval rating from the audience, something that is rare to see on Rotten Tomatoes.
Episode 4 showcases the origin story of Milioti’s Sofia Falcone. From being an innocent woman who seeks justice for her mother’s murder to becoming a deranged, dangerous, and unpredictable crime lord, Sofia has indeed come a long way. The most tragic part was that only her brother, Alberto, believed in her innocence and stood by her, even when all of Gotham City was against her.
The latest episode is relentless, brutal, and epic in every possible way, and it truly deserves its IMDb score and all the praise. You can stream Episode 4 of The Penguin on JioCinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
