As we all know, Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) emerged as the sole survivor in Squid Game Season 1. The highly anticipated Season 2 introduces a fresh lineup of players. Once again, we witness desperate individuals grappling with the hardships of their lives or drowning in financial distress, competing in the infamous, unpredictable, and perilous series of children’s games to win the coveted cash prize. Haunted by the traumatic events at the end of the first season, Gi-hun returns to the games as Player 456 to uncover the truth about who is orchestrating this horrifying spectacle.
The nature of these games allows room for only one survivor. Season 1 introduced compelling and memorable characters, such as Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo) and Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon). However, since these characters are no longer part of the story, Season 2 features an almost entirely new cast, aside from a few returning fan favourites like Gi-hun and In-ho. Let’s take a closer look at the new faces joining the game!
Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae)
Gi-hun reenters the games as a veteran this time, using his entire fortune to participate once more in a bid to uncover the identity of the mastermind behind this insane and deadly competition. In Season 1, he joined the games due to financial hardships, but his return in Season 2 reflects a quest for both redemption and revenge for the events of the first season. Seeking a competitive edge, he implants a tracker in his teeth, allowing his team members to locate him easily. However, the organizers remain one step ahead, removing the tracker before taking him to the venue.
Hwang In-ho / The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun)
Meet the current head of the games! (SPOILER ALERT!) This year, In-ho enters the competition himself as Player 001. He looks to personally punish Gi-hun, who is returning to the games, for past transgressions. The protagonist only met the Front Man when the latter was masked. He doesn’t have any idea that In-ho is orchestrating the games.
Se-mi (Won Ji-an)
Se-mi intentionally joins the team with weak players, thinking that this strategy will improve her chances of survival. However, her plan backfires when another player, Min-su, whom she considers one of her trusted people betrays her.
Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon)
Jun-ho went undercover to try and find his missing brother, In-ho, who disappeared after joining the deadly Squid Game in the first season. Jun-ho finally found his brother, but it turned out that In-ho was now the evil boss of the game, called the Front Man. We also watched In-ho trying to kill Jun-ho by throwing him off a cliff. Miraculously, Jun-ho survives and can be seen working as a traffic policeman.
Recruiter (Gong Yoo)
He’s the guy who picks people and makes them play a game called Ddakji. If they lose, he slaps them. But if they win, he gives them money and a chance to play in the Squid Game.
No-eul (Park Gyu-young)
She can be seen working in an amusement park at the start of Season 2. She separated from her infant daughter while trying to escape from North Korea to South Korea. She works as one of the masked pink guards to earn money to pay investigators who are looking for her lost daughter.
Lee Myeong-gi (Yim Si-wan)
Player 333 (Lee Myeong-gi), a disgraced crypto YouTuber who swindled investors, is exposed by the guards. This makes him a target. He encounters his former lover, Player 222 (Kim Jun-hui), who is pregnant. He tries to reconcile but faces her distrust due to his past betrayal.
Su-bong a.k.a. Thanos (Choi Seung-hyun, a.k.a T.O.P)
A famous rapper, played by the real-life Korean rapper T.O.P., is forced to enter the deadly games because he lost a lot of money in a cryptocurrency crash.
Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan)
Jung-bae, Gi-hun’s old gambling buddy from the first season, is also trapped in the deadly games. He’s also an ex-marine.
Dae-ho (Kang Ha-neul)
A young player in the games quickly joins Gi-hun’s team and connects with Jung-bae because they both served in the military.
Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon)
Park Sung-hoon portrays Hyun Ju, a transgender woman. Hyun Ju participates in the deadly games with the hope of winning enough money for a gender-affirming surgery.
