Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is performing brilliantly at the box office, earning over $212 million so far. Keep in mind that the threequel has yet to receive its full-scale global release, as it has premiered in theatres in select regions only. In India, it is set to arrive on January 3, possibly due to the ongoing box office battle between Pushpa 2, Baby John, and Mufasa: The Lion King. Given its current trajectory, it seems poised to outgross its 2022 predecessor, which earned over $405 million globally.
What makes Sonic 3 the best entry in the trilogy? First and foremost, Jim Carrey’s over-the-top, eccentric, nonsensical (at times), yet humorous and entertaining portrayal of Dr. Ivo Robotnik deserves mention. His dose of madness doubles in this installment as he also plays Ivo’s grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik.
Carrey gives his all in Sonic 3, delivering numerous standout moments throughout the movie. His maniacal energy, blended with a perfectly measured dose of emotionality from Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of Shadow, makes the film an exceptionally entertaining watch.
Yes, there are some truly bizarre and nonsensical scenes in the movie. For instance, one moment shows Ivo watching an Italian soap opera. Considering the scale of the movie’s plot, this scene should not make sense at all—at least, not logically. Yet, it somehow works, thanks to the supremely talented Jim Carrey.
Mufasa: The Lion King has underperformed expectations, earning only $328 million globally, leaving room for Sonic 3 to potentially surpass its predecessors. Let’s see what happens! Stay tuned for more updates.
