How Many Seasons Will Invincible Get on Prime Video? Kirkman Reveals

How Many Seasons Will Invincible Get on Prime Video? Kirkman Reveals

With each passing day, we inch closer to the release of Invincible Season 3, premiering on Prime Video on February 6, 2025. The first two seasons focused on Mark Grayson’s personal struggles, his fraught relationship with his Viltrumite father, Omni-Man, and the multiversal threats triggered by Angstrom Levy’s actions. However, Season 3 is set to raise the stakes, centring on the Viltrumites’ invasion of Earth.

The series is based on the 144-issue Invincible comic book series, written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Ryan Ottley and Cory Walker. This fact naturally raises questions about how long Prime Video’s adaptation might last. How many seasons will Invincible have? Here’s what Kirkman has to say about the show’s future.

In a recent interview with Collider, Kirkman shared detailed insights into the series’ trajectory, revealing his strategy for when and how he plans to conclude the show.

“The way Simon [Racioppa] and I have mapped out, where we would kinda follow the comic and where the breaks would be, roughly eight seasons. Could be seven, could be ten.”

Kirkman acknowledges that producing additional seasons will become increasingly challenging due to the demanding schedules of the cast and crew, as well as Prime Video’s production commitments. While he believes that 7 to 8 seasons is a realistic goal, he jokingly suggests that 9 seasons would be even better.

So far, the showrunner has secured a fourth season for Invincible, and rumours of a possible fifth season are circulating online. However, stretching the show to eight or nine seasons is no easy feat. Keeping the audience engaged for such an extended run will be a daunting task for Kirkman. Additionally, the schedules and other commitments of the show’s actors must be considered. In the unpredictable world of TV shows, nothing is guaranteed. However, as long as Invincible continues to be a streaming success for Prime Video, the platform will likely remain open to greenlighting further seasons.

Now, let’s turn our attention to Season 3, which is expected to adopt a darker tone than its predecessors. Life will become even more complicated for Mark and his family, as our beloved hero grapples with numerous challenges. Despite being faster and stronger than ever, Mark cannot defend Earth from the Viltrumites on his own. At some point, he will need all the help he can get.

Another major plot point in Season 3 will be the growing rift between Mark and Cecil Stedman. The Season 3 trailer shows Mark questioning the morality and values of Stedman and his Global Defense Agency after discovering that Stedman has partnered with D.A. Sinclair to prepare Earth for the battle against the Viltrumites. We might even see Cecil making controversial or questionable decisions to save the planet—choices that may not align with Mark’s beliefs and morals.

Additionally, Mark has the added responsibility of caring for his rapidly growing half-brother, Oliver. It will be fascinating to see how Oliver develops in terms of his abilities. In the comics, Oliver inherits superhuman strength from his father, Omni-Man. His Viltrumite heritage grants him immense stamina, endurance, and near-limitless capabilities, which could play a significant role in the story.

Season 3 promises an intense battle against the Viltrumites while delving into complex personal storylines for the young hero. For example, Mark might begin a romantic relationship with Atom Eve. Fans could also see the emergence of Mark’s evil counterparts from other dimensions, along with many other intriguing developments. Let’s wait and see what unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates.
